Most Competitive Boys League?

Post by good4nuthin on 7/23/2012, 3:28 pm

Does anyone have an opinion on what the most competitive boys league is?

I personally like SDL and Primetime, having more TOP20 or TOP30 teams playing in them. The last 2 years, SDL has actually fielded 25 or 30 teams that allows "proper competition levels" to be set.

I think Primetime will have an invite only league for 03s similar to what they did for '02s in the Spring. It's all subjective, but I would imagine that would be the league with the highest concentration of the "stronger" teams. Assuming that is what you meant by competitive.

Have enjoyed SDL and Primetime leagues in the past.

Thanks, same with the 03 girls side - Primetime TGPL is by invite only and attracts the top teams.

We did discuss UAL as an option. The main points of discussion on our team were:

1. When we added the ref. fees & academy home association costs with the UAL fee, SDL is still about $30 more expensive for our team.

2. Our coach feels the competition level is much higher at SDL.

3. As a TM I can complete SDL registration for the whole team on-line where with UAL each parent in my team has to go to their home association to register their player. I can also print my own tournament rosters as needed throughout the year. For us the convenience was worth the $30 more in overall cost. Surprised

We didn't talk much about fields, but I've heard SDL now owns the old Andro facility & has really fixed it up. Does anyone know if that's true?

$30 in overall cost or per player? SDL at one point was more than double - but I heard they made some adjustments.

We were looking at it on a per team basis. Here is what we found:

UAL registration for U10 = $500
UAL referee fees = $240
Home Association using an average rate of $50 per player, as these vary by city. Some associations fee covers both seasons, so I figured $25 per player for the fall season for our roster of 18 players
which = $450

Total UAL cost = $1190

Total SDL cost = $1225

If we add a player during the season, I can add them to my roster on-line with no fee and no trip to the rec. office. Again, for me the convenience of it all is more important than the money. I like to keep the quality of the soccer high and the administrative tasks as low as possible.

Agreed. Having to pay association fees greatly increases the effective price of the NTSSA leagues. If the only reason you would pay those is to play in a league, it's pretty easy for SDL and (especially) Primetime to be a better deal for your overall $.

In my experience that has pretty much always been the case. Though SDL used to hit you pretty hard to register a larger roster though it seemed a lot of folks played pretty loose and fast with the rosters in SDL to avoid that.

SDL now lets the TMs handle their own rosters completely; there is no fee for having a large roster.

There are also 8 tournaments already on the calendar at the DSP (SDL East) facility which will add plenty of opportunities for teams to play using only their US Club membership.

if it is the same or similar teams as the Spring, then I would rank it below SDL 2 in terms of competition.

the fields were not that great.

My son plays on a his regular team and was a top SDL 2 team in the Spring and played on a newer Club team in UAL and the competition was drastic.

CXBar, is there an accepted teams list? Where did you find that info? Can you provide us an updated team list for SDL?

With PYL dropping their fees to just $300 (including referee fees), they should attract lots of teams.

Does SDL have a higher level of competition in comparison to UAL? What are the differences?

From what I have seen, the teams in SDL are more advanced then the teams playing in UAL and the level of competition is much higher in SDL (if talking about D1).
