Trying out with other teams

Post by hnyloc on 5/2/2018, 1:05 pm

Anyone experience a coach sending parent's an email saying that if you ask for release to practice or guest play, that you won't have a spot on the team? And what period would you need a release anyways? Isn't the end State Cup the normal period where you can tryout with other teams?

Any thoughts/opinions are appreciated.

That's a softball. A good coach isn't capable of being a good coach if he/she's isn't putting what's best for the players first. The only thing good this particular coach has done is reveal his true colors. Run for the hills.

beginning Monday, May 14, your BB is free to practice with any team without permissions, docs, ...

guest play releases for tournaments are still required through June 30.

yes there are coaches who warn about testing the waters; there are also clubs who have said that no guest play releases will be granted.

Socceropath is 100% correct.  If anything, that coach has made your decision easy.  I know it is often forgotten, but strangely, youth soccer is about the youth.  In my opinion, a coach that sends such an email is not putting kids first.

Is this information somewhere on the Classic League site?

Rule 3.10.10 of NTSSA Bylaws and Rules:

NTSSA has established the seasonal year as being from September 1 through August 31.  However, these rules provide that a competitive player is a free agent beginning July 1....  After completion of State Cup competition for their age group or completion of league play for their team, whichever is last (the end of the soccer-playing year for competitive players), players may practice with other teams without any required release or other permission, although formal tryouts may not be held until July 1.  Players wishing to guest play in tournaments must always obtain a properly signed guest player release.  (See Rule 4.61.)
