I actually thought about this before reading this article, however, now after reading this I really believe that we should start sending more of our talented youth overseas. Each year US soccer should find a way to send 40 to 50 of our best 16 year olds to Europe, get them signed up with various clubs, and let them develop. I know that most of them may not develop into world class players but it would be a step in the right direction.

I'd already seen some excerpts from this article but the whole thing is really a must read. This kid is ready to lead the USMNT in a positive direction.

My #1 takeaway - The USSF has invested heavily into the MLS over the years to prop up the league and has been a pivotal component in their success to date. But the MLS isn't reciprocating. The MLS is a business and developing US players is not in their business model. In our own back yard, had Weston McKinnie stayed at FC Dallas there's no way he would see any playing time in front of Kellyn Acosta. In yesterday's game (albeit a small sample size), McKinnie ran CIRCLES around Acosta...I'd even go so far as to say McKinnie was the best US player on the field and Acosta was the worst in terms of quality.

Obviously the best answer (currently) is to ship these kids to Europe, but few can get there early enough due to the VISA requirements. The lower hanging fruit is figuring out a way to develop the 16-20 year old players domestically. The new USSF President must make solving that issue his number one mission.
