I said "intentional slide tackle from behind to take the player out."
This is worse than a punch given by someone that is responding to an aggression.
You need to pay attention to the scenario, not just block you mind thinking "punch".

I find it fascinating that some of these parents think a punch is sooooooo egregious but when their sons are throwing deliberate elbows, intentionally executing dangerous slide tackles from behind, or pushing a player from behind when they've been beat, THAT is just good, aggressive defense in the spirit of the game. Spare me the indignation. Dirty play speaks for itself.

Maybe their sons aren't doing all those other things you mention, and that's why the punch seems so egregious.

can you guys take "The Punch" to another thread, please? that incident has nothing to do with the tournament this weekend.

agree wrong thread -but since it's still here...

While a punch is egregious and provocative in terms of reaction - I do agree the dirty tackle is much more likely to hurt someone. I think somebody mentioned concussion, broken bones, etc...maybe I'm native - but I don't think many 10 year old kids in a mini scuffle would have the ability to do that type of damage. However, these kids running at full speed and sliding right into legs, knees, ankles , etc could easily do some real damage...and/or the resulting fall could break an arm, collar bone, etc.

Both wrong of course and the punch is the thing that evokes the reaction since it's obviously intended to hurt...and kids know a punch is "bad" and can hurt..i'm not sure kids are as aware that a dirty tackle can be so damaging (yet)...

cruiser - I don't think where you were born has anything to do with it...
also, it's not about the danger, it's about the intent.

This topic is also in the D1 thread...reply there.

I see now - that was typo on my side...

Cruiser, we usually give TayJ the benefit of the doubt. His attempts at being clever are usually off the mark...but he's trying.

As long as I have amused myself, then it was a success...and I have pretty low standards.

Re: Week 2 Qualifying Tournament

Post by JasonCrowder on 8/3/2017, 3:26 pm

Ok, do you keyboard warriors realize you are over-analyzing 10 year old soccer? In fact, this statement is quite the gem: "4 Kennington (LFS) '06 players joined Volkan....and they got benched every time they passed out of the back rather than clearing it as far as they could (Jason note: really?). Same if they chose to pass to an open teammate rather than a 1v3 opportunity (Jason note again: really?). Volkan emphasizes 1v1(+) play up front, boot it out of the back (aka kickball) at this age". Dude, you should start analyzing underwater basketweaving if that is what you think you are seeing. And, socceroo, Your opinions are quite the beating... especially toward our team... are you the utmost authority on Solar soccer... how are you at all these games and why such the issue with us?" The only thing any of you are correct about is that it has to be earned on the field by the kids... your opinions might make you nimrods feel better but they are irrelevant and mostly annoying. Alright, that is my one and only post ever. Stop by and say Hi on Saturday morning if you'd like... I will be rooting on Solar Volkan's 'kickball' brand of soccer again.

JC
To be fair I was talking about Volkan's '06 team. I haven't seen the '07 team in forever since my son's team always plays Platinum/Gold. I'm just assuming the same approach from the same coach. My bad.

This is a ridiculous premise for an opinion stated as an observation. And if you look at Volkan's history, they have only ever played Gold or Platinum.
