OK this is interesting Plano teen signs for Portugal 2nd div

Post by Ehlodog on 9/30/2016, 1:29 pm

Ok this kids didnt play for the big 3 so he didnt play DA, yet he signs for a 2nd Division Portugal team. If he is that good why didnt he play for a DA team, is this a failure to identify or maybe he just didnt like the DA teams

played for SMU.......

Keaton Parks | MF | 6-2 | 160 | Frisco, Texas (Liverpool FC America)

Local talent Parks was a four-year letterwinner at Frisco Liberty who earned first-team all-state accolades as a junior and helped his team to a regional final appearance. As part of Liverpool FC America under Armando Pelaez, Parks served as team captain, and went on to play for two years as part of the Liverpool Warriors NPSL team. He was also a member of the '97 North Texas ODP team and competed at the 2011-12 US Soccer Federation Training Center as part of the U17 National Team.

while my son has chosen DA, i can assure you there are a number of his friends that have chosen High School soccer over DA. not surprising at all that someone outside of DA is very capable player. my BB has 3 or 4 west tx buddies that could start for DA clubs but they live 5 hours away and would rather not move to DFW and/or want to date a cheerleader Smile there is still a thing referred to as "big fish in a little pond"

Fantastic story! Thanks for sharing. Best of luck to Keaton. NTX is proud of you!!

I've always been a big believer in the concept of more than one way to get there. This is a perfect example of another way.

This is great for Keaton and himself, his family, his coach and his club should all feel proud tonight. Anyone "should" know that all the da, ecnl and all the other hyped up leagues are fine but are not necessary should you want to play at the highest level. The top and best players will always be found and find their path. I know several top boys that skipped da , like Keaton, to enjoy hs and life outside soccer and who found a way to the top... its something most of us know and hopefully the rest will wake up... or not. Congratulations again to a fine young man.

Keaton has been a standout player since Curtis Partain found him and trained him with dynamo 98. Along the way Armando took a special interest in him and made sure he had all the extra attention he needed until he left the US. Point is the kid is uber talented, but academy or not he has been treated special because he is. you don't need academy if a coach with real connections will treat you like his son

He never played for SMU. He was signed by SMU and should have started this fall, but left to play soccer in Europe.

If I am not mistaken his friend Armando went to the same club with him last year and both started on the second team. Keaton made the jump to the first team and had a great season so far. A few weeks back he scored 2 and had an assist in a 4-1 league game win. As said before he has been a player in his age group for the longest time and hopefully his career just started.

There are defiantly more way to get there. My BB's private lessons coach did not play for a huge club. He did however go on to play for SMU. From there he went on to play professionally in Denmark and Spain.

I have always found this Keaton Parks thread interesting based on him not playing for the big three or for a DA team.  Anyway, for those that do not know, Keaton has made some appearances with Benifica’s first team this year.  There has even been some talks of him being invited to a USMNT camp.  If Benifica and Schalke 04 finish the season in their current place, we could possibly have at least three players playing in the Champions League next year from the US, with two having ties to North Texas.
